X-Files Movie: I Want to Believe

Director: Chris Carter

Starring: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Bill Connolly

Release: 2008-07-22

The X-Files: I Want to Believe is a somewhat disappointing second movie for the once-popular TV series about UFOs and the paranormal. Although the TV show was responsible for reviving respectability for a B-grade genre, this new film won't do it any favours.

The story has moved forward several years since we last saw Scully and Mulder. The two of them have left the FBI, Mulder has become a recluse, while Scully is a dedicated doctor working to cure a young patient.

But the two are drawn back into the world of paranormal investigation when an FBI agent goes missing and a reformed pedophile priest (an excellent Bill Connolly) with psychic powers is asked to help locate the missing.

The plot gets increasingly complicated, but not necessarily in a good way. And though we cannot tell you the ending, we can tell you that the film doesn't portray the LGBT community in a very good light.

You may "want to believe", but after watching this movie, you'll start to have doubts...
