There is no substitute for the charm and allure of actors. <>My Best Friend's Girl is, in many ways, a typical romantic comedy mixed with some toilet jokes. But it is the spunky humour and charisma of its actors that lifts the material again and again.

Dane Cook plays a man who makes a fortune out of being the worst date alive. Men who have just been dumped by the ex-girlfriends pay him to be the first guy these girls date. Dane would then pretend to be so horrible that the women quickly run back into the arms of their ex-boyfriends. Kaching, kaching!

Dane's roommate, Jason Biggs, is madly in love with his co-worker, Kate Hudson. After casually dating for a few weeks, Jason tells her his feelings. But she freaks out and promptly dumps him. Desperate to get her back, Jason asks Dane to do what he does best � date Kate and give her the worst night of her life.

But guess what happens when Dane and Kate go on a date...

As a couple, the two do have a good chemistry. They're perfectly compatible when the script calls for trading insults, and even better when they have to execute some slapstick gags. Kate is obviously following the footsteps of her bimbo mum, Goldie Hawn, by perfecting the ditzy personae, while Dane has gotten that frat boy abandonment down pat.

There are some very funny moments here, as well as some toilet jokes that'll make you flinch. But by the end of the movie, you may find that you'd enjoyed My Best Friend's Girl much more than you care to admit.
