Max Payne

Director: John Moore

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Chris O'Donnell, Beau Bridges, Ludacris, Mila Kunis, Donal Logue, Amaury Nolasco

Release: 2008-10-14

Max Payne, the terrific shoot-'em-up computer game that many of us played when we were teens, has now been made into a film. And like all computer games-turned-films, the results aren't great. (Think Hitman, Silent Hill, Mortal Combat...)

Mark Wahlberg plays a DEA agent whose innocent wife and baby girl are killed, sending him on a murderous rampage to kill anyone responsible for their deaths. And yes, that sometimes mean shooting everyone in sight not unlike the video game.

Max Payne is visually stunning but utterly dumb and illogical. Lesbian viewers and straight men might want to catch this movie to get a preview of stunningly sexy Olga Kurylenko, who is the Bond girl in the upcoming Quantum of Solace. And computer gamers may also be entranced by endless gunfights and bloodshed.

But the rest of you should skip it.
