I first alerted you about the twenty year-old crooner earlier this year when I stumbled upon some of his earlier productions that instantly had me sit up and listen.
Burnette's fantastic cover of Demi Lovato's gut-wrenching "Skycraper" is a great example of that. He beautifully reimagines the ballad with his soulful and tender delivery that easily matches the pop brilliance of the original track. Plus, Burnette looks confident and ready for the big time in the meaningful video of the cover.
After the viral success of his cover of Lil Wayne's "How To Love," Burnette's take on Lovato's song is shaping up to be a breakout moment for the rising pop talent that will boost his momentum with the pop crowd.
He chose to reinterpret "Skycraper" to further spread the song's empowering message of standing tall and staying strong. "I decided to cover 'Skyscraper' because its an uplifting message," the singer writes me. "And coming from an artist like Demi, who has recently experienced the troubles of life, it's really a song that connects and resonates with today's youth, myself included."
Signed to Warner Music, Burnette has been shuttling between his home in New York and Los Angeles for the last few months to work with a slew of chart-topping songwriters and producers to tune his sound and record tracks for his forthcoming debut record. In the meanwhile, we can enjoy his cover of "Skycraper plus hopefully a few more touching covers. Watch the video of Burnette's cover of "Skycraper" after the break that was masterfully directed by Joel Dunn of Theory Films.
