Almost Love — which is not to be confused with Perhaps
Love, A Lot Like Love or Almost A Love Story
— is a Korean romance starring heartthrob Kwong Sang-Woo and
winsome sweetheart Kim Ha-Neul.
Three years since their box-office triumph in My Tutor Friend
(2003), the two have teamed up again in this likeable romance about
two childhood friends who grew up together but never thought of
each other as anything more than friends. Things come to a head
when she starts dating his friend...
Almost Love is very likeable in its first half, as Sang-Woo
and Ha-Neul get to reprise the cheeky banter and cute flirtation
that made My Tutor Friend such a thorough delight. They
are effortlessly engaging during these sweet moments. However, the
second half of the movie takes a turn for the worse when the breezy
comedy all but disappears in favor of tearful melodrama and hammy
histrionics.
But Sang-Woo's fans would be pleased to note that, just as My
Tutor Friend featured a heart-stopping moment when he appears
in his white briefs, Almost Love also has a similar swoon-inducing
scene where someone barges in while he's bathing with another guy.
Yum yum yum...
