It's not often that we folks at Fridae enjoy an action film. But we have to say, The Bank Job is very good. This heist movie is directed by veteran filmmaker Roger Donaldson who's made good thrillers and action flicks like No Way Out and Species, so you can expect solid craftsmanship from the man.
It stars Jason Statham (The Transporter) as a used-car dealer who owes a lot of money to a mysterious character. Pressured by his responsibilities as a family man, he agrees to lead a gang of crooks to carry out a bank robbery. But the heist gets complicated when Britain's top intelligence agencies become involved...
Now, we've always thought of Jason Statham as a B-grade action actor. But in The Bank Job, he gives a surprising strong performance as a man forced into his desperate circumstances. Saffron Burrows, who plays a dangerous temptress, shines as always.
The Bank Job is intelligent and believable two adjectives that are not commonly used to describe action films these days.
