愛, 不難 (For Love, We Can) Short Film Presented by Red Ribbon and HKLGFF Premiering on 6th March 2014

The Red Ribbon Centre has been co-operating with the HKLGFF since 2006, recommending films, short films and documentaries relateing to AIDS issues. So far they have introduced more than thirty moving stories, promoting messages of AIDS prevention and the importance of early testing. 


Since LGBT film production in Hong Kong is limited, Red Ribbon Centre and the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Fesitval (HKLGFF) decided to work together to produce film with a true reflection of the local gay community.


This year they present 愛, 不難 (For Love, We Can) which features Jun, a reckless, rebellious young man. His sexual orientation has made his father furious, with his mother (Han) stuck in the middle; even after the father’s death they are still unable to reconcile and even though Jun and his mother only have each other, they do not communicate. Knowing that being gay is not accepted, although they live together, there is a wall between the two.

In addition, the two co-organised activities which include a LGBT Book Fair, Short film competition, photography competition, underwear painting and an art installation exhibition. They hope through different channels to effectively promote safer sex messages to the LGBT Community.
 
The idea of shooting the movies began in 2013 with The School of Film and Television with assistance from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts spent many months of data collection and field observations within the gay community, and then script writing, casting and after all this the official shooting which was finally completed in early January 2014. For the sake of excellence, the school successfully invited famous Taiwanese movie and sound designer, Mr. Tu Du-Chih who has won numerous awards, including the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Horse Awards, as well as other international audio awards. 


Red Ribbon Centre (RRC) is an HIV/AIDS education, resource and research centre established by the Special Preventive Programme of Department of Health. The mission of the Red Ribbon Centre is to facilitate and enhance the community's response to HIV/AIDS. 


In recent years, RRC has launched a series of HIV prevention campaigns that targeted on men who have sex with men (MSM). Through these campaigns, publicity materials and information about HIV prevention were delivered more effectively than ever among MSM community. In addition to the use of various creative means and new media to promote the importance of safer sex practice and regular testing, the Centre also collaborates with NGOs, venue owners, peer groups and volunteers of the gay community to convey the HIV preventive messages among them, with the hope to unite the powerful response of the members from the community, and to enhance the overall response. 


Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival Society (HKLGFF) is a registered non-profit society. The organisation seeks to promote equal opportunities and eliminate discrimination against sexual minorities in Hong Kong through showcasing cinematic works of art. 


In 1989, the first HKLGFF held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, was also the first film festival in Asia dedicated to the LGBT community. Today, HKLGFF is usually held between September to October annually and play all the LGBT themed films, attracting thousands of audience admission. In addition, the organisation will also organise various recreational and cultural activities during the festival, so that participants from multiple perspectives to understand more about LGBT community through activities and interaction. 


Cast:


Carlos Chan (Michael), Hong Kong actor. Joined showbiz in 2003 participating in the EEG singing contest ; now EMP artists. Has been involved in a number of TV shows, movies and advertisements. 


Yau Hawk Sau (Jun), is a former student of The School of Film and Television, The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Has appeared in 2013 Fresh Wave Short Films, and 2012 HKAPA graduate’s work. 


Annie Liu (Han), is a Hong Kong actress. She participated in the 1977 TVB (sixth) Artistes Course and has starred in many TV series and movies. She was nominated in the 33rd Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Golden Horse Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Floating Life.


Li Fung (Michael’s grandmother), is a veteran Hong Kong actress. She has starred in many TV series and has been nominated for TVB’s The Year's Extraordinary Female Artists in the 2005 Anniversary Awards. She has been involved in many films and is now a Hong Kong television network contracts actress.
